Messenger Kids (Meta)
I managed a cross-functional team pioneering AR effects and games for Messenger Kids, one of Meta's most successful products. My team focused on creating meaningful, original IP for kids all over the world. We published hundreds of novel effects and unique experiences with a focus on communication and connections for kids and families.
A huge challenge was the daunting size restriction on every effect we published. A large part of our mission was broadening the opportunity for access to content regardless of processing power for kids' devices. We needed to support all types of devices, from less costly or older tablets to higher-end smartphones running the latest OS.
Part of my solution was in designing reusable and flexible systems, leveraging stylized yet low-poly models, applying simplified gradient textures, and economically applying procedural animation to maximize impact. My team consistently outperformed expectations over multiple quarters. Our games and effects were highly regarded and well reviewed by critics, parents and most importantly the kids!
